Eheim External Filter Professionel Complete Special Edition-2222?
i want to get this type of filter but i'm not sure about the capacity, my tank holds 100 liters would this type of filter be to big for it i'm sure about this filters liters per minute because i read somwhere that > "choose a filter which can turn over the entire aquarium volume between 2 to 6 times every hour with 4 times an hour being a good average rule of thumb" would this filter be able to do that?
also if anyone knows any better external filters for fish tanks please let me know.
The filter is good for tanks up to 150 liters, but there would be no problem using it on your 100 liter tank, it just means you will have extra filtration on your tank. The rule of thumb you talk about for filters about them having a 4 times an hour turn over, this is a great rule when it comes to power filters, but when you start looking at the canisters, the rule doesn't apply as much. Canisters will generally have a lower flow rate than a power filter, but they are actually more efficient. The canister filter you are looking at purchasing has a flow rate of 92 gph (gallons per hour), and they are made for tanks up to 40 gallons, so that is just a little over 2 times an hour turn over, but it is fine because the filter is far better than a power filter that has a 100 gph. The power filters with 100 gph flow rates are usually suggested for 20 gallon tanks, half the size of the Eheim you are looking at, this goes to show that you have to take into account the filter quality and amount of media and not just the flow. So like I said, the filter is a little large for the tank you have, but there would be no problem with using it, it just means you will have better filtration.
